Local 3101 Supports Future Animal Services Facility

At the Monday, August 25, 2025 meeting, Nassau County Fire Rescue Professionals Local 3101 demonstrated their commitment to the community in a meaningful way, making a generous donation to Imagine Nassau in support of a new Nassau County Animal Services facility.

This contribution represents more than financial support. It reflects a shared vision for the future of animal care in Nassau County and a deep dedication to enhancing quality of life for both residents and the animals who depend on us.

The journey toward a new facility began in December 2022, when a comprehensive needs assessment was conducted. The study evaluated the current shelter, explored options for its future use, and identified long-term funding strategies to support a modern, sustainable solution. Building on those findings, the Board of County Commissioners took a major step forward in June 2024 by acquiring a 6.76-acre property along State Road 200, selected for its central location and high visibility.

The new Animal Services facility is being thoughtfully designed to better serve the community and improve outcomes for animals. Planned features include separate lobbies for intakes and adoptions, spacious adoption galleries, isolation and quarantine areas, a dedicated cattery, puppy play yards, walking trails, and even a barn to accommodate large animals. Administrative offices and support spaces will ensure efficient operations, while the overall design will prioritize a healthier, less stressful environment for animals in care.

The Board of County Commissioners extends its deepest appreciation to Local 3101 for their generosity and continued partnership. Their support goes beyond their role as first responders. It exemplifies a genuine commitment to making Nassau County a better place for all.

As the design phase progresses, Imagine Nassau looks forward to sharing more details about the upcoming capital campaign that will help bring this important project to life. Together, through community support and shared purpose, we are building a brighter future for Nassau County Animal Services.

Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for being part of this journey.
